Every now and then friends of mine post some awesome photos of them on top of a rock the shape of a potato chip. They would say how difficult it was to get to the top and I would always cringe at the amount of time it would take some of them to reach the top. My eldest was recently on spring break so I spontaneously decided that her and I should hike up there. She had previously done it before and pretty much described it as a piece of cake (at least for her) So I agreed and we made our way up there. I am so out of shape, I was already hurting going up hill at the parking lot! Can you believe that?!
As we made our way up the mountain the views were beautiful. There's a lake and you could just see the entire city. I must admit I took breaks more than usual because it was just so hard lol. I honestly thought I wasn't going to be able to make it! When we made it half way we took a little break and had some snacks to help us re-energize. When we finally made it to the top it was well worth it. Sadly it took us three hours to reach the top. But I did it and I was very proud of myself. Now what they don't tell you is how difficult it is to get to the actual potato chip rock. Getting to it was easy peasy but coming back. Oh man, it was difficult. I ended up falling and scraping my knees. A good samaritan saw that I was struggling and literally had to pull me up. Which was a bit embarrassing but I laugh at it now. At the time I swore up and down that I would never do it! But now that my body is back to normal and no longer feeling sore, I think I would definitely do it again.
So overall, this is a difficult hike. It took us a total of five hours, three going up and almost two going down. It would be easier if you're in shape. If you're not (like me) it's totally do-able it might just take a little longer with more frequent breaks. Which is totally fine! Be sure to take lots of water and snacks!
