Finally!! After four nights of darkness and cold our power is finally back! I was going nuts! Entertaining a 7 month old in the darkness (well with some candles and flashlights) was no easy task. My 12 year old did fine, but it was really taking a toll on us. By the second night it started to get really cold so we made a fort in the middle of the living room and slept in it. It was MUCH more warmer then sleeping in the bedrooms. The power came in the evening so it was the first time I had seen how much this hurricane damaged so many homes and left people with nothing but their clothes on their backs. I'm from California so I'm used to an earthquake here and there. I have never experienced something like this and I was freaking out. I'm so thankful we didn't get affected as bad as other people did, but I'm still sad that this had to happen to so many people. Especially with the Holidays around the corner. My heart and prayers go out to all those people affected by this! If you'd like to help you can text "REDCROSS" to 90999 to donate $10 and help those in need.

Thank you so much to all of you who kept us in your thoughts during this incident! Your words mean so much!!
Last but not least I wanted to wish my beautiful daughter a Happy Twelfth Birthday! She was such a trooper about not being able to celebrate today. I love you baby girl!

Yay! Such good news! I'm so happy for you guys!
ReplyDeleteThank you Autumn! I'm so happy my girls get to sleep extra warm tonight! :)
Deleteglad that you guys weren't hit to hard, and got your power back!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks hun! I'm so glad too! Things could of been so much worse! :(
DeleteI'm glad you and your family are ok. My prayers are with all of those effected in any way. In 1998, here in Puerto Rico, we had the hurricane George. I don't clearly remember, but I think it was a category 3 hurricane. It was awful... many people got affected in so many ways. Our house was flooded, we lost our power for 4 months. We lost our water and our phone lines too. Our family in the US had to send us bottled water and canned food via mail because it was not easy to find those products in the supermarket. As you can see, it was very difficult. But thank God nothing really bad happened, it was just material stuff. Our family kept together all the time and that was the important thing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your daughter!! My sister is 13 years old :) Have a nice weekend Sandra!

That's horrible Mariely! I can't imagine what 4 months with no power would be like. I'm glad all of your family was ok. It's so sad that these things have to happen! But we have to stick together and have compassion towards one another!
DeleteThank you for the birthday wishes! :)
Glad that you and your family are safe. God bless you and everyone affected.
ReplyDeleteWe have a cabin in remote northern Ontario where we go each summer when we can.. we can only get in & out by water there, and we have no running water, electricity, etc. We go with the five kids, for a week or two at a time & absolutely LOVE it.
ReplyDeleteBUT - we had bad storms here in northern MN this summer & had to go without power for a few days, and it's VERY different when you aren't prepared and doing it by choice! Glad you guys are up & running again. Our thoughts are with all those still affected.
Happy birthday to your daughter- Twelve is such a big year! Our twins boys really changed fast at around twelve. (They turn fifteen already in a couple of weeks.)
What did you think of Life of Pi?
So glad you're alright!
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine being without power with a baby. So glad you guys are ok. Sending prayers your way. I've been without power before but that was when I was single. With a family...not so easy. It makes me realize just how ill prepared I am right now in case something happened.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're back! I can't imagine entertaining my little man without electricity - mad props to you!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are okay and you've made it through this

ReplyDeleteSandra those winds, (i live in the woods) were bending the trees to the point of giving me anxiety. I said my prayers in the morning for everyone and then waited for the storm. At one point I gathered blankets and sheets and went to the basement with the pets and hubs. It was scary. We lost a few shingles but for the most part we were safe and God is good. I saw your fort on Instagram and wondered how you were getting along. You are strong and courageous. You did great. dawn suitcase vignettes
